Reviewer Policies

The following policies apply to everyone who reviews manuscripts for Annals of Infectious Diseases and Therapy. Reviewers are asked to read them before accepting an invitation.

  1. Conflict of Interest and Financial Disclosures (specific to reviewers)
  2. Reviewer Guidelines
  1. Conflict of Interest and Financial Disclosures (specific to reviewers)

Reviewers must decline to review if they:

  • Work at the same institution as any author;
  • Have collaborated with, supervised, or been supervised by any author in the past five years;
  • Have a financial interest in the outcome;
  • Are in direct competition with the work;
  • Have a personal relationship or conflict with any author;
  • Believe they can identify the authors and that this would bias their review.

Reviewers disclose any potential conflict to the editor when accepting an invitation.

  1. Reviewer Guidelines

Reviewers must:

  • Treat the manuscript as confidential; not share it, discuss it, or use its contents before publication.
  • Declare any conflict of interest and decline the invitation if one exists.
  • Review objectively and constructively, with reasons for every recommendation.
  • Alert the editor to suspected duplicate publication, plagiarism, fabrication, or ethical concerns.
  • Not contact the authors directly.
  • Not upload any part of the manuscript to generative AI tools or any other external service (see the AI Use Policy).
  • Complete the review on time or notify the editor promptly if unable to.

Reviewers who wish to involve a colleague or trainee must first obtain the editor's permission, and the co-reviewer's name is recorded.

Generative AI (GenAI) and reviewers

Reviewers must not upload any part of a manuscript, or their review, to a generative AI tool. Doing so breaches confidentiality and may compromise the authors' intellectual property. The review must reflect the reviewer's own expert judgement. Reviewers who used any AI assistance (e.g. for language polishing of their own text, without uploading manuscript content) must disclose it to the editor.

Reviewer recognition

Reviewers may claim credit for their work through ORCID or Web of Science Reviewer Recognition. The journal publishes an annual list of reviewers with their consent.
